Lea Ladina Jaecklin Switzerland, b. 1968
Galerie von Opel is delighted to present the work of Lea Ladina Jaecklin, in collaboration with Museum Mater (Barcelona). The exhibition will be on view in our gallery from October 5 to November 9.
Perception, visions, and dreams are central themes in the work of this Swiss artist, who expresses her ideas through drawing, painting, film, sound, and performance. Her practice includes Super 8 performances, sound experiments that merge field recordings with violin and effects, and installations that combine multiple media into immersive environments.
She studied at the Art Schools of ZHdK in Zurich and HEAD in Geneva, where she deepened her knowledge of mixed media and installation. She graduated in 1999 with the experimental black-and-white documentary Un comportement correct se paye (16mm, 33 min.), created together with a collaborator. Entirely filmed, developed, and edited by hand, the film employed visual image modifications and has since been distributed by Lightcone in Paris, awarded and screened at several international film festivals.
Her artistic vision is also shaped by her family roots in the Engadin and northern Italy. Deeply connected to the region’s landscapes, languages, and traditions, she divides her time between Geneva and Celerina in the Engadin. This dual identity informs her work, particularly in projects that visually and conceptually link the Engadin with Barcelona. In one such video piece, snowy mountain horizons and sgraffiti are superimposed with urban streets, ceramic tiles, and images of deer, creating layered dreamlike sequences.
By fusing images, sounds, and cultural references, her work activates new dimensions of perception. These visual and sonic juxtapositions invite the viewer into a poetic, almost mystical space where places, memories, and identities intersect.
